LaserJet PCB Printing Tutorial

Here is a tutorial I put together to help you get up and going with the process of printing your own circuit boards. I found a few tutorials online and pieced together what worked best for me. I put the process together as a set of Youtube videos so you can see exactly how I am doing it. All the references I found were heavily text based with a few images. Hopefully the video approach helps you get well on your way!

*** Disclaimer **** While the process described below worked for me I cannot guarantee that it will not damage your printer or in any other way cause you harm and/or personal distress!!! **** (that being said lets get started! )

Step #1 Preparing your paper

For the most part all the info you will need is in the video but I would just like to note that the printer I am using is an old HP LaserJet 4100TN that I picked up on Craigslist for 30 bucks.

Step #2 Printing your project

Step #3 Polishing the copper

Step #4 Cleaning the copper

Step #5 Trimming your pattern

Step #6 Mounting the pattern

Step #7 Melt it on!!

Step #8 Give it a good soak

Step #9 Peel off the pattern

This is where the rub comes in (pun not intended... well not entirely) it is at this point that you will know if you did everything right (and you are lucky). If you don't like what you see when you pull off the pattern don't sweat it, just scrub off the ink with the steel wool and try again. In all reality once you know the steps a re-try will only take 10-15 min. Don't be upset if it doesn't work just right (see video )

Step #10 Etching and Drilling
